Background

Bike Yard Online is an e-bike shop running on Shopify. In June 2025 it was getting around 100 clicks a day from Google.

Buyers are also changing how they search. More of them now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Overviews which bike to buy, so being cited in those answers matters as much as ranking.

The approach

We are keeping the exact search terms and page plan to ourselves - they are the shop's competitive edge - but a shortened version of the method looks like this.

  1. Audit first. A manual SEO audit on day one, page by page. It turned up the usual Shopify problems: duplicate, generic title tags, under-optimised H1s, too few internal links and thin collection pages.
  2. Fix the foundations. Unique titles and descriptions, clear headings, tidier product URLs with redirects in place, and faster pages.
  3. Internal linking. Collections, products and guides linked to each other, so search engines and buyers can both find the depth of the range.
  4. Structured data and the product feed. Product markup across the catalogue and a clean feed into Google Merchant Center, so products appear in Shopping with the right details.
  5. Content for people and for AI answers. Clear, factual buying guides and answers to the questions buyers really ask, written so AI assistants can quote them and cite the shop. That is the GEO part.
  6. Measure and repeat. Search Console every week: what is climbing, what has stalled, and which pages need another pass.

The results

The chart above is Google's Search Console report. Over the 14 months it shows 105K clicks and 7.17 million impressions. Daily clicks climbed through the first summer, held through the autumn and winter, then stepped up again in March 2026, reaching 400 to 500 a day by the summer.

Click-through rate rose from 1% to 1.5%. Within 12 months daily clicks from Google were up more than 250%, and the shop was showing ahead of its competitors in search and in AI answers.

Where it fits

Search brings the buyers in; the rest of the shop has to keep up with them. The orders it wins land in the order management and CRM hub, and bikes that are on their way can still be sold through the custom pre-order app.
